Kayak Tours
Sound Bikes & Kayaks offers kayaking tours upon reservation. We arrange to go when you want to go, weather permitting. As our kayak tours are private and not run on a schedule, you will receive the benefit of more time on the water and a kayak trip tailored to your skill level and adrenaline needs. Our kayak tours leave from the store unless arranged otherwise. We are closed on Sundays, but with a reservation we will be happy to accommodate you. When you get to the store, we will fit you with the appropriate equipment and then head out to paddle.
This trip leads out from Freshwater Bay to the open waters of the Straits of Juan de Fuca, along the coastline and back again. Along with enjoying the rugged cliffs, you will be able to see river otters, sea otters, seals, sea lions, eagles, cormorants, the occasional whale and many more water species (critters willing). When water visibility is good, urchins, sea stars, crustaceans and much more can also be seen. Come and explore the coves and inlets and enjoy the astounding beauty of Freshwater Bay. This launch site allows you to explore the protected water of Sequim Bay where seals, Dahl’s porpoises, sea birds, eagles, puffins and more can be viewed. You can check out the old fishing shacks and vessels left on the peninsula while experiencing exciting channel paddling. This is a great place to paddle by moonlight. Please call to schedule an evening paddle—we like to have a tailgate party with hot chocolate when this one is done! Beautiful Port Angeles Harbor is a paddle you won't want to miss. Have your picture taken alongside the big tankers and freighters that come into the harbor for rest and repair, with the beautiful Olympic Mountains in the background. Discover the amazing sea life that lives under the pilings and docks, and explore the dynamic shoreline of the harbor. The tour can include a trip around the buoy at the end of Ediz Hook and then returns to the shore. Come and see this beautiful lake while it still exists! See the stunning vistas of the Olympic Mountains and paddle this serene lake while watching the eagles, otters, ducks and deer. We will take you to the Aldwell dam and back. When the removal of the dam starts, check with us for an alternate trip that may let you see some of this historic event. This one is fun! We leave from the Straits side of the Ediz Hook and paddle out to the two mile buoy. This will let you feel the rythmn and movement of a moving body of water that feels like it has a mind of it own…it does!! The surrounding vista’s are stunning with the full Olympic Mountains, sunsets, Canada, and unending water. This tour is recommended for the more experienced paddler as the currents can be strong.

We suggest you bring the following items: • Water shoes and warm socks • Sunglasses with retention device • Sunscreen, lip balm • Sun hat, rain hat, and/or fleece hat • Synthetic top and bottom (thermal underwear, heavier weight for cooler weather) • Raincoat and rain pants • Nylon shorts and/or swimsuit (summer only) • Water bottle (1 quart) • Towel and change of clothes for ride home • Camera with film, batteries and dry storage (optional) • Binoculars (optional) Please pack additional items as necessary for your personal comfort, but remember to keep it light and efficient.
